Biden should now use a paraphrazed version of his now famous Juliani quote... McCain is nothing more than a Noun, a verb, and POW! :)

What a crying shame!
I stopped supporting Obama when he pretty much kissed butt to the AIPAC a few months ago.
Now, I know America is lost.
Let me see, Biden is a self-proclaimed Zionist. Most Americans equate Zionism with Nasizm. So, how can Biden say, "You don't have to be Jewish to be a Zionist" Biden is a Israeli agent, just like Libermann, who will most likely be picked to run with McCain.
The Zionist have our politicians in their hip pocket.
Don't worry Pollard, your days as a jailed spy for Israel is short. Soon you'll be a hero in Israel when you get your pardon.
Pollard should have been shot!
No matter what, the Zionist Thugs win and we lose!

You right wing idiot! You should be ashamed of every Republican. What liars and money hungry war mongers.
GREAT CHOICE! ARF ARF ARF!!! Look out McCain - here comes the attack dog and your about to have all your lies and innuendoes and cheats etc. EXPOSED for all the world to see. Be afraid McCain, be very very afraid because while Obama was handling McCain slurs and lies with kid gloves, Biden is going to rip McCain to pieces and show him for the old flip-flopper fraud he is....

Atleast Biden is willing to talk without a teleprompter and fight like a man for this country. Of course MCCain will destroy him when it comes down to it. Biden doesn't have the press armor Obama recieves his weaknesses will be drug out and stomped in the streets. This election is starting to get fun!
MCCain 08 baby!

Biden will not get Obama to the White House. He has too many feet in his mouth. I can't wait for all the gaffs he going to make in the next two months. How can he bring change when he has been in political for 30 years. for for the same bills. Did his influence change the situation? He voted for most of the things they have criticized Bush for. The IRAQ WAR!! Obama made the biggest mistake of his campaign by not choosing Hillary and it's all because of the one and only Michele. This ticket is a failure! Both with no executive or military experience! Obama is a nice guy, but he's not what America needs for a president.

I could not be happier about his choice. I think it shows a lot of wisdom on Obama's part.
But I have seen the right wing liars are starting to get ants in their pants.

Some Obama supporters are celebrating today. You should know that many Republicans are as well.
Here's a few reasons why:

Biden has been in the senate since he was 29 years old, what happened to no more politics as usual, what happend to a new day, a new America, a new world. a new lie?
- 1 vote
"McCain is nothing more than a Noun, a verb, and POW!"
That is so true! His reply to every challenging question is to trot out the fact that he was a POW. His team does it, too.
After the revealing episode with McCain not being able to recall how many homes he owns (!), his spokesman Brian Rogers said, "This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years — in prison."
Comparing apples and oranges will not make people believe McCain should be president.
- 2 votes
ELDON-422209 -- and in 29 years Biden hasn't made himself super-rich like many other Senators. Although there is nothing wrong with being rich (although it seems to sometimes contribute to some people losing touch with reality), I'd say this fact says something about where his priorities lie.
- 2 votes
How do you know how much money he has? And whats that got to do with anything? [OB ran on a platform of no more politics as usual, bottom line that's what he said] other bottom line Biden is a professional politician. And at his age if he handled his money well, he should be setting pretty good anyway. You know him, is he good with money? Or just other peoples money?
Biden has been in Senate for 36 years, since he was 29 years old.

Linda,
Please make sure your post abide by Newsvine's Code of Honor.
Thanks to everyone who has stayed on topic.
..Better keep that champaign on ice, Pam, I think Sen. Obama just dropped the baton.
It seems that 'Team Obama' was not able to cross even the Democratic aisle, to "bring together" the Kennedy side and the Clinton side. I thought Sen. Obama wanted to win? Having Sen. Joe Biden take off his gold cufflinks, tie stay, and $200 handkerchief does NOT make him "working class", ..and we don't need another 35 years of Biden's partisan obstructionism. Sen. Obama could have done better with Mr. Kobe Bryant. In that scenario, Sen. Obama would be able to speak with his own voice (..instead of the Biden/Pelosi plan) ..and Mr. Bryant could have taught the Dem's something about winning!
I don't think Obama wants to win. He's already called Biden the next president. He's going back on his word (again) about change. He's picked one of the most senior politicians in the senate to run with him. The man who finished last in his own run for president. The man who said Obama doesn't have the experience to be president. The man who said McCain would be a good president. The man who thinks Baraks last name is America. Obama. I think all eyes will be on Biden and McCain and the Obama drama will fade.
JOHN - Time to take the gloves off. You may have to give Biden a spanking and send him back home to mama.
..and in today's newspaper (and on new 'Joseph Biden" page in wikipedia) Sen. Biden claims he is but a "working class" fellow, with a "net worth of less than 150k". That can not be a true statement. He has been a U.S. Senator for 36 years! What has he done with all those $200,000-plus incomes for all those years? Is he THAT bad a money manager? (..maybe he shouldn't be on that Appropriations Committee!) I suspect he is good at hiding things, ..like the truth.
- 1 vote
Biden certainly is anything but poor, but it doesn't seem like becoming super rich has been a goal for him. I'm sure he's fine at handling money -- he's raised three kids, has what looks like a very nice home (at least from what I've seen on TV and in photos), apparently has his mother living there with the family. For some people, those things are more important than building up a fortune.
- 1 vote
Gipper, ..it seems to me that the "most important thing" to listen for in a candidate is the truth, right? Do you think that home is worth more than 150k? I've raised three kids, too, ..and we all took our showers in the back yard at night to cool off, ..we didn't have a pool, or air conditioning either. Does he? He now makes over $300,000 a year. He has been on that job 36 years. He owns his house, you say? Do you really think he is only worth $150,000 like he says? I don't, ..he couldn't be THAT dumb, could he?
- 1 vote
"Worth" and "income" are two different things. Re his home: I doubt he owns anywhere near 7 houses and I doubt that if he had been asked how many he owned he would have had to say, "Uhh, my staff will get back to you on that."
Here's a link to a news report outlining Biden's income and worth:
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/08/24/america/CVN-Biden-Finances.php
And here is a quote I like from an August 22, 2008 David Brooks NYT Op-Ed piece written in favor of Biden as VP, before the announcement of his being chosen was made:
"Even today, after serving for decades in the world's most pompous workplace, Senator Biden retains an ostentatiously unpretentious manner. He campaigns with an army of Bidens who seem to emerge by the dozens from the old neighborhood in Scranton. He has disdain for privilege and for limousine liberals — the mark of an honest, working-class Democrat."
He closed the article by writing that althgough he didn't know who Obama chose, in his opinion:
"Biden's the one. The only question is whether Obama was wise and self-aware enough to know that."
And in my opinion Obama made a good choice and Biden will be a great VP.
Cheers!
- 3 votes
Gipper, ..enjoy your day, ..enjoy your exhilarations and affections, ..even enjoy David Brooks' exhilarations and adulations! It is a simple fact that someone who has gathered 5 to 10 million dollars from the public payroll will be worth more than $150,000 today. Throw that obviousness away if you like, ..and take up with that 30 year Senate obstructionist that will now control that presidential seat for the Democrats. Have a great day! ..but don't malign 10 million actual workers by calling that man working class, okay? Working men are honest!

Chris,
You are so right. I mentioned that very idea to some friends earlier today. I mean, when Camp McCain came up with "It's understandable Senator McCain might not know how many houses he owns. After all, his only residence for five and a half years was the Hanoi Hilton" I just totally cracked up. It's an embarrassing attempt to excuse his shortcomings, and it's a narrative they're going to stick with.
I can't wait till Biden goes after him for that stuff.

"You cant hardly go into a 7/11 without seeing some Indian people"
Joe Biden
Obama proved how big of an idiot he is by picking this guy.
- 5 votes
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Sen Biden is a brilliant choice to fill the VP spot.
His comment regarding Indian people working at 7-11 is true. I don't feel it was said to be disrespectful. They're working to mak a living, nothing more, nothing less.
I can think of about 6 different ethnic groups off the top of my head that are associated with specific kinds of business.

It doesn't take an Einstein to connect, Biden is a highly intelligent individual. Perhaps, he has begun to piece together that Zero Population growth is the number one issue facing, not only USA, but the entire world. The more and more equate to less less, both here at home and around the world, and if you slip the scrambling of all the vast living dynamics of nature that govern all life in regards to global warming -- we are about to face some dark and disturbing unknowns. Already, nations around the world are facing food shortages.
In my 65 years, I've witnessed a vast deterioration of the quality of life in America, and a dramatic dumbing down of Americans. We cannot experience quality and more and more quantity and more and more hordes of humans; it doesn't equate! Today, my hometown is nothing like it was in my childhood. This isn't about racism; it is all about sanity.
Based upon my intense research into the ecology of Earth, deforestation of Earth's ecosystems is not only causing global warming but a long list, of Earth deteriorating nightmares, and the more and more are consuming the living, life-gifting, physical body of Earth. What is also indicative of a dying planet is, Earth's ecosystems store C02 in their living bodies while pumping out oxygen. Earth is losing this ability because of the killing of Earth's ecosystems for more and more human consumption of the body of Earth for food, fuels, housing, cities, and concrete is dead earth and infinitely hotter than a dense, heavily forested ecosystem.
I believe both Obama and Biden are two open-minded, not easily brainwashed individuals, that have the innate capacity to think and govern. For most of my life, almost all presidents have been brainwashed Republicans that are inverse to visionary thinking, and this nation has continued its slide into the abyss of sinking levels of consciousness, intellect and reasoning. It is with hopes, that Biden has the intellect to tackle Zero Population, whether it is more & more hordes of immigrants or white breeders.
It is with hope, that Biden and Obama are so intellectually superior to the brainwashed Republicans, whose voting base is Christian breeders and fetus lovers, that they will rise above the garbage and see the forest and all its life-gifting cycles and biogeochemistry synonymous with life itself and begin to think of Zero Population!
- 9 votes
white trash- We are only 4% of the worlds population maybe you should try zero growth on the rest of the world. You my friend are the luny left that has taken control of the democratic party and pushed it so far over the edge it may never come back. If you follow this guys beliefs vote for Obama/Biden. If you think solving the worlds problems by improving things rather than letting your species die off is a better idea vote for MCCain.

Right on Brian....W.T. might benefit from doing some "intense research" into his own personal issues, of which, bitterness and resentment possibly top the list....he appears to be displacing a lot of personal frustration and anger onto the political and ecological arena, which is what I've noticed many left winger types do....much more safe and comfortable for them than taking responsibility for, and examining their own inner issues and turmoils.....What astounds me is how someone can acclaim "open-mindedness" as a virtue but not allow an opposing point of view, unless it's equally as wacko. Conservative opinions, Christian beliefs, and respect for life are trashed and those who hold those opinions are labeled as the antithesis to "intellect and reasoning."....guess one only has those characteristics if one agrees with the same position and of course he's got to be right because he's somehow tapped into universal consciousness and knows truth in its purist sense. How much do you want to bet that W.T. is connected to academia?.... I'm going to have to find my work eye goggles just to protect myself from the nut chips that are flying from this guy's rigid butt cheeks....

I don't mind Indian people working. But what bothers me is that most of them own the 7/11. Somethings wrong there!!!
It appears we have some scientific illiterates joining the debate, expressing some sub intellectualism with their limited IQ's. "Think Globally but Act Locally", the war cry of activism.
It is obvious and logical to assume, we cannot control the burgeoning and mushrooming populations of breeders around the world, but we can act to preserve America's ecosystems and biological diversity, the rivets that hold spaceship Earth altogether and lead by example.
Of course, if individuals are scientifcally illiterate and are in the dark concerning the most pressing and desperate issues of our times, like the majority of the highly evolved Europeans, whose top priorities are environmental, global warming and to wage world peace, then we will just remain the cracker crumb tripping cowboys and chest thumping cavemen of the planet, wallowing in their sweet tater crumbs and yelling hee haw and gitty up, cowboy while America losses more and more global respect, and Europe gains as the new paradigm of intellecualism and world leadership, tackling the big issues in the big picture. Whew!
And, Americans will continue on as the planet's most rapacious rivet poppers and the laughing stock of Europe and the new century! Hew Haw, cowpokes and nurse Ratchet!

Just as everyone will WOOOOHOOOO! this selection, just keep in mind that is exactly what the McCain Camp is doing as well.
I agree that Joe Biden is the best choice as the VP and will compliment Barack Obama and help to unify the Democratic Party.

Wait til the polls come out. We'll see how much he unifies the party. At least some people can stop complaining about John McCain's age. Is Joe Biden 70 yet? He looks it.

Oh I don't agree Pancha. I think Joe looks pretty darn good, but more importantly, he's going to eat McCain's VP alive at the VP debates. There is no one better. He knows every bill, every person who voted, and how they voted over his 30 years plus in the Senate. Wow.

I voted for Hillary in the primary, but she and Bill Clinton made things too contentious, and she did not enthusiastically rally her supporters around Obama to be seriously considered as a VP candidate.
- 15 votes
Ya know Bill did take a couple things a little personal, which is probably becuase it was his WIFE. which anyone would I would hope. But I always found it a bit funny when Obama tried attacking Bill during the primaries but at the same time screamed to the media to "Leave my wife alone! keep her out of it! she is just Passionate!" when she was showing up to constantly speak out of turn as she tends to do alot. But IF Hillary was the selection, I'd find it VERY surprising if Bill even hung around teh WHite House more than a few days a year. I never understood the "Fear of Bill and the Clintons" message that the Right very successfully planted into the Left Mindset.
- 3 votes
We need to focus on rallying behind a viable candidate and try to let go of the primary results. Obama won, let's move on.
- 16 votes
Damn. I just lost my bet.
I bet, 6 months ago, that Obama would be president. I didn't want it to happen, but I saw it as inevitable.
This pick marks the end of his presidential run.

Ahh. . . I love the naysayers. Choosing Biden is brilliant. He has been around long enough to have the experience where it is really needed, in the halls of Congress. He knows who, how, where, and when, when it comes to putting into place the changes that Obama (and Biden) put forth. No knock on Hillary but none of the other possible VP candidates, including Hillary, have that type of experience. Plus, Senator Clinton can be valuable on the Senate floor as part of a Democratic team that we desperately need to get us back on the right path. Anyone who is switching to McCain or a third party just isn't paying attention, has an agenda that just isn't one that wants to restore the middle class, or is so driven by bias that they'll cut off their nose in spite of their face.
- 14 votes
Well he is not much younger than McCain remember all the Obama voters who continuously called McCain old etc so what do you guys thing about Biden's age?

Yes, now you have two liars on the same ticket. This man said he would not accept the nomination for vice persident. Another flip-flopper
- 4 votes
well what do you expect of man who can't get the nomination for president to do except to ride on some one Else's ticket? although he chose a man that would hurt America.
- 2 votes
Disagree. In my lifetime, the vast majority of presidents have been brainwashed, exceedingly dumb, Republicans. They have, continuously degraded life in America.
Great minds think alike. Why is it the Republicans represent the sub-intellects in this nation, and all the brains go for the Dems. Wasn't Bill Clinton's IQ 160, and Hillary is no lite-weight intellect, herself. Look at the intellects of Obama and Biden; they are infinitely more intelligent & intellectual than all the Republican prez dum-dums like Duhhhbya and Reagan.
How is the majority of Americans always elect such stupid presidents? Could it be, that the average, majority of Americans, in the middle of the bell curve, are also non-thinkers?
- 2 votes
In one word- YES. The vast majority of people in this country are ignorant or stupid. Just look at some of the things America worships. A blond haired Blue eyed plastic Jesus, A T.V. monitor with some dude promising salvation if you help his hundred million dollar ministry. An ex crack salesman who just made 150 million last year. Monster truck rallies. The NFL. American Idol. Tabloids about the latest neurotic insecure actress/actor. Arnie as Governor of California just because he is the Terminator. America is stupid as a whole, get used to it. It will not change as long as there is some notion that we as Americans have a right to exist just because we breathe. We are majoritarily lazy, spoilt and fat, living off our our warped belief that we have some right to exist just because we are here. Take a seat and watch the decline of the American empire from within, brought to you by the same people who write incessantly on these blobs like their opinion matters.
Zep, it is obvious from your commentary, you aced your IQ test as well. Superlative post.
ezeques-- If we can get all high schools in America to teach Constitutional Law as a requisite to graduate, (not to mention good READING ability), perhaps we as a nation would not be so screwed up. We are taught apathy to issues that really matter, and rage as the rebuttal to nonsense. Other countries only differ in the amount of education that their citizenry receive. Dumbing down is part of the plan----resist it at all costs.
Constitutional Law
CONSTITUTIONAL LAW!!! you poor delusional child...This is America. We need to teach religion.;- )
Biden can be a bit of a loose cannon, but he brings some silver haired experience to the table. He's fairly middle of the road for a Democrat. Don't think he will particularly hurt or help Obama that much.
You want some silver haired experience ? Why we have McCain over here that has a lot of it. Why go for some silver haired experience in the number two slot, when you can have it in the number one slot?
- 4 votes
Mart,
Because Biden's slivered hair is above a brain that still works. I'm fairly certain he knows how many houses he owns, can tell the difference between Sunni and Shi'a, and as far as I know hasn't managed the extraordinary trick of voting against his own bills.
- 7 votes
Even though the majority of Americans are registered as Republican or Democrat our views are mostly moderate, middle of the road, we lean conservative on some issues, liberal on others.
The person elected President is the President of all Americans, not just the members of the party he or she is registered to.
- 2 votes
Biden is another democrat who has never had a job. He has been in Congress since he was 29 years old. I thought Obama was trying something new yet he brings to his side a career politician that sides with the republicans on the war and has been a huge advocate of spending America into the worst national debt in our history. The only change we are seeing from Obama is him Changing into one of the good ole boys before he even has had time to form his own opinions.
Why does Obama keep shifting more towards my side? I thought this was gonna be a left wing republican vs a Far Left wing socialist Democrat now we have a left leaning republican vs a socialist democrat with a pro war neocon running mate? It must be confusing to be a democrat right now?
- 2 votes
Mart, concur. The color of Mc sub, sub's hair isn't the issue and is totally irrelevant, except, unlike Biden, his body is shaky, and he can't even navigate a curb, successfully. I'm concerned, he is so shaky, he'll awake at 3 am and push the wrong, red button.
Absolutely, it is what lies beneath the hair that matters. The color of skin is also irrelevant. What is relevant is, the size of the brain pan and the electrical synapses in the brain that count. Evidently, the more snynapses firing, the more thinking and intellectual the brain. After all, a cheap bottle of hair dye can turn gray into just any ole color.
Conversely, both Bush and Mcsame would have to have brain transplants instead of grabbing for a bottle of fletching mink brown or dashing blue black

I don't know much about Senator Biden, however what I have read makes me think that he and Senator (and in November, President) Obama will make an excellent team.

Kara, research him. He's made his mistakes, But overall he's a good man. There are points that you can attack him on and he's defiantly not a yes man. Overall I think he makes the ticket more interesting. I put him and Dodd in serious consideration during the primary. His biggest drawback is that he is such an attack dog that he can occasionally stick his foot in his mouth which is why his one word "yes" answer in the primary debates was so funny.

lol Kara its obvious you don't know much about either candidate if you are still supporting Obama.

Wordy. It is much too intellectual and enlightened for my tastes. LOL However, this is a classic example of the logic and reasoning abilities of the Mc braindead Republicans. Chortle, chortle.
George...I think Biden will be a great help to Obama. Obama picked him for all of the right reasons.
- 3 votes
No, it will hurt him a little, he will lose a percentage of the African American vote and not gain the Hispanic vote he needs. And Biden is a great guy but he's not enough to bring in the working class votes either. Plus now the campaign has to double up on introducing TWO people to the American Public as most people still aren't sure they really know who Obama is and most just plain don't know much about Biden. Which is sad.
- 4 votes
Huh? Joe Biden has been in politics for 35 years, and got quite a bit of exposure during the primaries. Plus, he doesn't have the baggage that Hillary has (who I like BTW). I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on your assertion. Other than Hillary and maybe Richardson, he is probably the most well known Democratic candidate.
- 9 votes
Yes, well have fun explaining that to the majority of American Voters. I personally am fully aware of Biden's past and good effect. As I Said I like the guy, but the fact remains, 4 out of 5 americans still cannot find Iraq on a world map. And we've just never been good at knowing who is in office.
This is one black woman who intended to vote for Joe Biden when he ran for president the first time but had to drop out because of his brain aneurysm. This Republican woman will vote for Obama and Biden. May not change your mind but these two will compliment each other very well. They are both very solid men, they don't cheat on their wives, they worked for what they have and all this crap you are hearing about Obama's brother just doesn't make sense to me. I know that in Africa if you are a half-cousin five times removed they call themselves brothers, aunts, uncles. So everyone who is looking to make this a reason to slam Obama better wait to see what the story is. Could have been Cindy Lou paying someone to imitate this supposed person.
Jacob, you like him so your are moving on to a third party vote. You were moving on anyway. Good for you. I think Biden is a good pick from what I have read and this African American will stay true to myself and my interest in a candidate.
- 4 votes
Jacob-251997No, it will hurt him a little, he will lose a percentage of the African American vote and not gain the Hispanic vote he needs. And Biden is a great guy but he's not enough to bring in the working class votes either. Plus now the campaign has to double up on introducing TWO people to the American Public as most people still aren't sure they really know who Obama is and most just plain don't know much about Biden. Which is sad
Jacob, Biden will not lose any percentage of the African-American vote. 90% of them are with Obama and that will not change with Biden as VP. You don't think Biden will not help with the Hispanic vote? Biden is Catholic and will bring many needed Catholic votes to Obama. Hispanics are traditionally Catholic and are a rising factor as working class citizens and that factor is growing rapidly, so they WILL be in the mix, and you are 0 for 2 on your comments above. To make it 0 for 3. Biden won't need to be introduced to the American Public as he has been in the Public Eye in the United States and has been well known Internationally for the past 35 years, a Senator since he was 26 years old. What is sad is that you are not as well informed as you would like people to believe you are. Do some research and speak some truth, not just Republican spin or emotional outbursts.
BTW. I thought you were leaving for some Third Party Vote. Before you go, I would personally like to thank you for your leaving behind your $2300. You left it in the right place.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Obama Thanks you too!!!! Also, I think Biden is a great guy too. I really don't know though how you can say he is and then spin all the negativity in your comments.
And, what has 4 out of 5 Americans still not being able to find Iraq on the map have to do with anything? But if you really want to know who is unaware of Iraqi boarders on the map, look back to the statement by McCain saying Iraq borders on Pakistan. I guess that makes you 0 for 4. Have a GREAT DAY NOW!!

Then shame on us for not knowing who the people are that we have elected to run our Country. If citizens are just voting for a name because they recognize it, then we have gotten what we deserve.

Just out of question, I know everybody is really keen on pointing out who the hispanics, the blacks, the whites, and the smurphs will vote for, but does anyone have any input on the age demographics. Supposedly this election is supposed to have a record turn out of young voters any ideas as to how Biden will effect that?
well I know where Iraq is but I am having trouble locating the 51st through 57th state Obama referred to can any of you help me.
By the way I think Ralph is dead on with his analysis Obama shouldn't lose any black voters with Biden and the Catholic thing may help the dems. Because A lot of Catholics are torn between the social agenda of the Democrat party and the Right to life Movement.
Bidens biggest draw back for the far left is he is a neocon pro war type. This is not a slur I know a lot of people use Neocon purely on the conservatives but they are using it incorrectly. A Neocon was originally a Jewish social liberal that evolved into a militarily conservative (aggressive) out of a desperate need for self preservation. I think Biden Meets the definetion other than the fact that he is not a Jew although he has been referred to as a zionist.
Oh, Outside Looking IN: Please change your posting name. When I read you name, my heart jerked. Your name hurt me. I hate, hate your name. Please change it. It hurts.
I am so excited about Senator Obama and so happy, there is a chance he might be our president. After 8 years, of a president with a sub-intellect, an anti-intellect, a president who has trashed America, we have hope because Obama is utterly brilliant. Both Obama and Biden, and this assessment would also include Hillary and Bill, think, believe and operate on an entirely different planet in a much higher and greater dimension than the Republicans who would sell their souls & Earth for a few pieces of silver.
Rejoice! There is a light at the end of the long, dark tunnel -- afterall. And, by the way, almost everyone is outside -- looking in. It is only the brainwashed duddards who believe they are in.

Yes, you are correct. I guess they really don't know Biden since he only got 5000 votes in the primary. He sure made an impression then.
White Trash, I am sorry that my name hurts you. It took a while to come up with a name that wasn't taken. I don't know how to change it and I don't mind to change it but I will have to come up with a new name first. By the way, why does it bother you? How about "inside looking out"?
I think that both men will make a great team. There's only one problem:
OSAMA BIN LADEN
OBAMA JOE BIDEN
Strange Coincidence!
Uninspired pick -- Biden is polarizing and brings little to the table -- is this indicative of the "change" the Obamessiah touts?
- 2 votes
OK, how about your (unbiased of course) take on who an "inspired" running mate would be? Mitt Romney?
- 7 votes
If you consider my desire to not have a socialist (communist?) liberal (i.e., the Obamessiah) at the helm of it, I am guilty of bias as charged.
- 3 votes
Aha, because any Democratic candidate is of course a socialist. So it doesn't matter who Obama picked as VP, your comment would have been identical, just *insert name here* into your comment.
- 8 votes
SWM, are we in the 50's again? I just don't think calling someone a Commie instills the same level of fear into the American people anymore. Try calling him a Muslim; it seems to work a lot better these days. And it's just as inaccurate. *eyeroll*
- 4 votes
Reveuse -- Hmmm, now I get it -- your lack of understanding re Communism helps to explain your apparent support for Obama (?) -- perhaps otherwise you would know better the negative consequences to the nation of electing this empty suit (and the stooge Biden).
- 2 votes
Communism, empty suit, stooge ... wow, very insightful political analysis SWM, thanks for adding so much to this discussion. Hey, you forgot my french fries dammit!
- 5 votes
Hmm....I grow tired of dueling with mental gnats like George B (and his looney left colleagues).....
I grow tired (?) of your (i.e. "you" possessive) smarter-than-thou (e.g. "lack of understanding re Communism") reactionary and totally without substance (e.g. "the negative consequences to the nation of electing this empty suit") crappy posts. Oh, and your stupid paranthetical thoughts really really suck. You're not smart, sorry.
- 6 votes
SWM, your haughty tone give rise to the idea that you consider yourself somewhat above the IQ of a gnat. I believe that people who must debase arguments to ad hominem assaults prove that they in fact, only imagine that they are smarter than gnats. Perhaps you should bring some IQ and facts to a debate. Pick on someone your own size, but look out, if you want to play with the big boys and girls your childish attacks takes you out in round 1.

SWM, I hope you don't rely on emergency services, the public school boards, the public transit or highways(to name a few).. cause those are Commie-Red Socialits prgrams..
What a joke...

SWM is almost right Obama is not a communist he is a socialist. He is not a Muslim but his father was and he attended a muslim school. Obama's redistribution of wealth plans are reckless and irresponisible. They are born of ignorance but luckily for him the youngest and dumbest of American society don't have the depth of experience to realize just how dangerous socialism is. They haven't seen the complete distruction of creativity. They don't remember Cambodia and what happens to people who differ in thought from the establishment. They don't Realize that the Nazi party was built on socialist ideals taken to the extreme. Instead they believe America is an Imperialist country even though America has not taken significant land or resources from any war in the last century. Even though our stated goal is to build an independent Iraq that has the ability to sell its oil on the free market they think we are stealing it. The sheltered existence most American live has led to an arrogant assumption that everything will be fine if good people do nothing. What do we care if a dictator executes and rapes his own people? We are not the worlds policeman why should we get concerned when Russia invades a soveriegn nation and threatens all of eastern Europe.
Its a scarry world socialism has failed mightely in europe and if we import it here it will drag us down also.
a. The Nazis called themselves socialists but were actually fascists. The difference is that the former advocates government ownership of industry while the latter works intimately with industry in a planned economy.
b. This would seem to be more reflective of, say, secret White House energy meetings, privatizing military operations to no-bid contractors who electrocute soldiers, and cutting through regulations so that a few speculators can profit on the misery of the country by jacking up oil prices.
c. I defy anyone to post a link from a RATIONAL source -- especially from the Obama site or DNC platform -- that reflects a dictionary definition of national socialism. To quote comedian Rush Limbaugh "words mean things."

SM: Commie, I thought that was duhhh mind-controller's or is it mind-controllers Rush and the other ...ushhhhhh or, confusion here -- is it duuhh's unscientific, illiterate label for scientific literacy, i.e., the ecology of an ecosystem Earth. Heck, Sm, you don't know even what the current enemies of the USA are concurrently???
Yep, our enemies change with the direction of the wind blowing. Perhaps, the true enemies of this nation are all the brainwashed, unthinking, drones who permit slogans, sound bites and propaganda to do their thinking for em. After all, not every American is a hee-haw cowboy with four foot pistols on his hips, yelling commie, bad, bad, bad, kill, kill, kill. And, duhhhhhhhhh bya

Well Obama lost my support was really trying too get on his bus and think about his new government like he's been preaching for months and months then drops a bomb and get a oldfart that has been voting for every think that Obama has been talking against as you all know a old person is set in their ways and won't change a little now Obama is changing to another Washington Politician like all the rest will look you in face and tell all kind of stuff you want to hear and behind your back will stab you and too all you young people he has used you about this change crap with pick a oldfart that can't ever get 10 thousand votes and most of all Biden saying he was good friends and would run with McCain any where and time I will help McCain win not voting Barr would be a vote for Obama or writing in Hillery's name that would be a vote for Obama with McCain in and the Dem over both houses he won't do much and if Obama gets in he might for a while then people is going to put Reps in house and then we all lose again this has become a dog eat dog country
Your response is not original, just repeating what Fox has been saying>
Janet - you are NOT scoring points by belittling "old people" - I are one, and as best I can tell I still have a few brains left, and am probably more "flexible" in my thinking and doing than you seem to be. I don't like Obama or McCain - so there.
Agree with George B. Hillary's behavior during and after the primaries did not make her VP material for Obama. I hope her supporters will understand this and JOIN her in voting for Obama and NOT McCain.
- 4 votes
well think that Obama and McCain they both got you fooled i don't think either of them would do this country any good!.
jake...lets hope once Obama is elected he is as good a president as Bill Clinton was.
- 2 votes
Biden is a decent fellow, but a bad pick. He's well-credentialed, and he'd make a fine VP (but a better Sec. of State), but he makes a lousy VP candidate for Obama. The Obama camp is apparently running with the idea that tight message control wins elections, and Senator Biden simply cannot be counted on to stay on message.
Add to this the fact that Biden doesn't bring with him any state that Obama doesn't get on his own, and you end up with a waste of a VP pick.
- 2 votes
I would not be surprised if Clark gets one of those two posts (I think Sec. Def. is more likely). I hope Obama breaks from recent tradition and announces one or two prospective cabinet picks before the election, but with Biden as VP I really don't know who he'd pick for Sec. State.
- 3 votes
That would be awesome if he did announce his cabinet choices before the election.
Not going to happen. :-(
Gene, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised in Biden. I have watched him for many years on CSPAN and he can be devastating. He does his homework and is rarely wrong. Those who have had the misfortune of coming before his committees in the Senate can show you the many scars he has inflicted. I believe is one of the people that Republicans fear and respect.
- 5 votes
Well, as I've taken a bit more time to digest the pick, I'm less concerned. I have already acknowledged that Biden is a heck of a debater and is a fearless campaigner, so that bodes well for Obama. I still can't place any states he brings with him, but maybe his presence will shore up support across the board. I'm hopeful. :)
- 2 votes
I thought Biden would have been State also but I do like him as VP, guessing State will probably go to Richardson?
Yes, Biden possesses a quick and deep thinking mind. I am impressed with his inherent intelligence; however, I will worry because so many Dems believe Obama had a better chance of winning selecting Hillary.
Gosh, doesn't it feel better to have 2 thinking, intellectuals onboard for America! Yippee!
- 1 vote
This was the pragmatic decision for Obama to make. Pragmatism. Look what this nation has accomplished through 232 years of pragmatic, utilitarian decision-making!
- 2 votes
Occasionally, the tree of liberty must be watered by the blood of patriots (plagiarism and mangled). I cannot tell from your comment if you are being sarcastic, but I will assume that you are not and say that if utilitarian decision-making is what you believe made America, then I think you had better look at the role, emotion and individual myths have played as well. We Americans are a religious, instinctive tribe that occasionally glimpses greatness, grabs for it and often fail. A great leader gives us a glimpse of what we can be and helps us take a step in that direction. Republicans assail idealism as a useless appendix, but fail to realize how much they rely on that in their base core constituents. Perhaps every 4 years they "trot out" the God, Guns & Gays mantra to try to enervate a listless moribund electorate to fever pitch only to put them back in their "box" for another 4 years. If Republicans could get past their focus on the past, they might realize that the future could be just as good. At any rate this argument will be rendered academic in 20 years when demographics clearly show that conservatives are going to be extinct. Every generation is becoming more liberal.
- 2 votes
3sheets, do you want every great political idea to die with its author? The word "plagiarism" is misplaced in politics. Politics is more like open-source code; everybody who wants to lends a hand on the framework created by others. In a short form like a speech, you can't follow it up with hours of footnotes. A speech is not a term paper.
3sheets, you plagiarized the idea that political speech can be plagiarized from Hillary, who shortly after her accusation, plagiarized a few things herself.

Halloween-I am a conservative and I believe in individual freedoms and the greatness of this nation. America not only reaches for greatness but we attain it on a regular basis. Our nation is a living breathing growing entity that becomes greater with every generation. In the past hundred years we have included women in our political system Minorities have steadily gained in both acceptance and equality. We are not perfect but then again neither is anyone else. We try very hard and will continue to grow as a nation.
Republicans are not focused on the past we are focused on the future. We are trying to prevent well meaning progressives from destroying the core of our country. When you create dependence on the government for every aspect of your life you lose that which makes you great. We believe in self reliance and feel that as individuals you should reach out to help your community but that government programs are wasteful and demeaning.
We believe you can be great and should be free to live your life unencumbered by a meddling government.
- 1 vote
Conservatism, by definition, is inexorably linked to the past. The American Heritage Dictionary says that a conservative is "a person who is averse to change and holds to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics." Republicans seem to think that what made our nation grow and prosper in the Twentieth Century will have it continue to grow and prosper in the Twenty-First. It will not. Continuing on a policy of cultural imperialism and thug diplomacy will bring about the welcome demise of this bloodthirsty and consumptive (abomi)nation.
- 2 votes
Brad, I am confused by the word, greatness. Everything that Americans holds dear and true, is and was based on a massive genocide of peoples who lived in America for over 25,000 years. Is thievery and genocide "great". While the founding fathers wrote their paper greatness and paper laws, the USA genocided twice as many Native Americans as Hitler killed Jewish.
One man's ethics and quest for greatness is another's wasteland of sin and evil!
- 1 vote
A conserative is someone who accepts today the values presented by liberals in the past.
- 2 votes
White trash- the native Americans were killing each other before we got here its a big nasty world and we won. =
Conservatives believe in this country and we also believe in progress we just don't embrace every new idea that comes down the pike.
H20 a conservative is someone who accepts time tested values and ideas.
Well.. This will be bad for Obama... The Country asked for Unity, People Wanted Hillary as her VP.
This means that Obama does not listen to what Americans want. He will lose major points in the polls.
Think for a second... Biden quit his presidential run early, Hillary went all the way!! Why pick a Loser?
To cover your inexperience?
Obama Biden.... We are just missing the Laden!
- 3 votes
So, ignoring your last sentence, are you implying that you would have voted for Obama if he had chosen Hillary as his VP (assuming that she even wanted the position) but now that he selected Biden you are not, even though the policies of Obama and Clinton are nearly identical and both considerably different from those of McCain's? Because, I'm sure you are an intelligent member of the electorate who focuses on the issues, correct?
- 5 votes
Very few thinking people wanted Hillary.
Hillary supporter will vote for Obama over McCain and will not staying at home sulking that they didn't get the candidate of their choice on election day.

How absurd. Childish play on words....
Why not try a little poem next time.

Not half as absurd as thinking that women will not support Obama because Hillary lost.
They will come out and vote and it will not be for McCain.
- 2 votes
Excuse me, 3sheets2thewind, I am a thinking person and I would have liked Hillary to be chosen. I supported Hillary for President, but when she lost I had no problem supporting Obama. He still has my support and I believe Biden would be a good VP, even though I do not believe Biden was the very best choice.
- 3 votes
How in the world do you know that in their private discussions that Senator Clinton didn't say--DO not ask me to be your running mate--I am not interested. The truth is you do not know and never will--as nor will I. Yes you love Senator Clinton, but there are others through out this country that would be highly energized against the ticket. Stop the silliness and if you are a democrat do all you can to defeat the continuation of republican domination of the white house.
Going to a 3rd party will not accomplish anything at all--please enlighten me about any third party candidate that has been elected and then impacted the country? D
- 3 votes
Obama just listened to the Americans that didn't want her.
- 1 vote
ok put this way mickey mouse could do a better job as president then obama ever could and as far as McCain he is no better.
I'm a registered Democrat. However, neither major candidate is qualified for the office they are seeking irrelevant of who their running mate's are. The two major parties look at whether they have a shot at winning and then decide who the media can sell to the American people. I don't think the hard working American people are donating a million dollars a day to finance their campaigns. I plan to vote for the person that I believe is the best qualified for the job, not the person that I think has the best chance at winning. Is this really the best America has to offer? If so, what have we become?
Obama used to have identical positions with Hillary but now he has Identical positions with MCCain. I hope he never runs against Hitler. Or we could see a speech about how the final solution is of course an option.
Hillary would not have taken the VP position if it were offered to her. She lost the primary and classy lady that she is she has thrown her support behind Obama. God bless her.

I will still vote democrat but I am disgusted by the Obama's running mate choice.
Fair enough yellow dog. Out of curiosity, who would you have selected?

And don't tell me that you are comparing Obama with JFK.
I'd bet damn near anything that all of those folks that are strongly in the Obama column today would find JFK far too conservative to vote for.
Heck, JFK makes McCain look like a flaming liberal.

Posters, do any of you have a handle on the chain of command in the U.S. Navy? Mcsame gotta legacy appointment to the Naval Academy, which had nothing to do with his intellect and academic performance. After the POW was released, he was automatically given a promotion in the links of command -- because he was a POW, a real kiss, here.
Within the U.S. Navy, it is understood that the NA graduates get the quick and rapid promotions in the chain of command, and almost all of them make admiral. Within the Navy -- if you went to the NA, it was assumed you would make admiral. Most admirals are NA graduates. Not only did Mc dummy get an automatic promotion because he lay on a cot for 7 years, he never got close to becoming an admiral. His highest promotion was Commander; he didn't even make Captain! And, he graduated from the academy fourth from the bottom of his class!
Talk about a failed Navy career! If a Navy A. graduate doesn't make captain, it is considered disgraceful in the Navy! And, with the kiss promotion, he should have gone to the top. Yep -- once in the academy, you are insured of climbing the chain of command quickly. McCain couldn't even do this by the lowest of standards within the U.S. Navy. Talk about a flop in life.
No wonder the loser left his crippled wife for a beer heiress; he was DESPERATE and washed up in the Navy. If the Navy didn't want him -- you must make your chain of promotions, or you are kicked out -- why would anyone want this loser as president.

Biden cheated on his wife, then divorced her and married a rich chick 20 years his junior, was involved in the Keating 5 scandal, doesn't know a Sunni from a Shiite, doesn't know much about the economy, doesn't know how many houses he owns, is forgetful and has anger control issues ... wait ... that's the other grey haired dude ... never mind ... my bad. :P

Great choice. Biden and Hagel are two of the great ones. Regardless of policy, we need leaders who can show actual leadership, statesmanship and respectability. Election of this Obama/Biden team would help get us back on the road to world leadership, a road we veered off of 7 years ago.
I'm still trying to be open-minded about McCain. It will be interesting to see who his running mate is. I used to be a McCain supporter but not so much anymore. I think the main concern I have is simply his age. I'm 61, and the prospect of having a president who is that much older than me causes concern. So I hope he too makes a wise choice. I have been looking forward to an election year which is something other than the lesser of two evils, as has often been my feeling in the past.
- 7 votes
Bluto. I share your ambivalence to McCain. In 2000, I was temped to vote for him, but now, I can see how much he has changed and I don't like the changes at all. He is no longer a Maverick at all. He is just an old white-haired dude that wants power before it is too late. The Biden choice is a very good one and given the increased power of the VP, bodes well for Obama. Biden can effectively guide the political power of the USA on the world stage and get some of our "face" back that Bush has taken from us.
- 4 votes
McCain has not changed, you have. McCain has always been who has always been. Enlightenment is a grand thing. Another person enlightened to how things really are in this election. I am so proud of you. It took four years, but hey, Americans are nothing, if not patient. The last eight years proves that.
Bluto.......... you must not be serious with the age thing what has age got to do with it? People become wiser with age, so look in the mirror and figure out why you are so afraid to get old. Besides Biden is no spring chicken either but I bet he is going to make a fine VP if Obama gets elected.
This is good for the party, good for the country, and good for our children. The other candidate has had it easy up to this point, but those days are now over. Strap yourselves in; the gloves just came off.

Biden is not well known to the average American. He didn't do well in the primary. If you combine Obama's and Biden's votes, it is not enough to take even half the country. It is too bad Obama is not as smart as John Kennedy was in picking his VP. Kennedy knew that in order to take the south, he had to take Johnson. In order to take the women vote and the blue collar vote, Obama needed Clinton. Biden might be able to pull in some of the blue collar, however, he can forget the female vote.
Since Obama doesn't know zilch about foreign affairs I can see why he'd pick someone who does. But did he have to pick a plagarist? Couldn't he have found someone with equal foreign affairs credentials who also possesses a sense of honesty and ethics. Oops, sorry, I forgot we're talking about Democrats here.
Let the nocon smear campaign begin, allegations that were shaky at best 20 years ago. Maybe Biden should tell a story about a cross in the sand or whatever. Honesty and ethics ... the hallmark of Republicans right? Like George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Tom DeLay, Bob Ney, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Jack Abramoff? Hey ... ya know the difference between a Republican and a Democrat? When democrats cheat on their spouse, it's with a member of the opposite sex.

Wow the smear tactics didn't take long.
I don't care if he is a plagarist as long as he agrees with the party line.

Plagiarism is for term papers. Every great political speech draws on the work of others, and none of them come with footnotes.
I know about "air quotes", I don't know how to do an "air footnote".
- 1 vote
I guess it's okay to not know how many homes you own, or what type of car you drive..
But whoa nilly, if you make a mistake and forget to cite ALL your source in a college paper, or fail to properly credit quotes in 1 speech of many (he used a similar quote from Neil Kinnock several other times, in various speeches, properly crediting him all but once) then watch out, because the gates of hell will open up and swallow this unmoral sinner..
/end sarcasm
- 2 votes
The cross in the sand thing never appeared in the archeapelgo Gulag book and was never spoken about by that author according to his biographer it was merely a false blog that started that rumor.
About knowing how many houses he owned it was obvious he didn't want to give a wrong answer so he said he would have the staff get back to the reporter. What is wrong with that ? His wife is completely financially independant of him so she can buy and sell homes at will. He also has family living in some of his properties so he probably just didn't want to guess wrong if the homes lived in by his elderly aunt would count as his or if his wife had bought or sold a condo in the last 6 months he has been on the campaign trail. I think his home in phoenix might still be for sale or may be he pulled it off the market before the campaign. I would bet if you asked him how many states there are he wouldn't answer 57 like our other choice for president.
Bidens Plagarism was interesting because he had lifted an obscure speech from a foreign politician that he thought no one would ever find out about. It is more interesting than criminal kind of like cheating on a term paper. Does it matter in the big scheme of things probably not but does it demonstrate a profound lack of character I think it does.
Keating 5- Wikipedia it. John MCCain made an honorable mistake trying to help a friend who had a stellar reputation and distanced himself when he learned their may have been some wrong doing on his friends part. (mother Terresa also intervened on Charlie Keatings behalf writing a letter to the judge asking for leniency)
